How do I get a job with a Venture capital firm
l would fit in a s a domain expert or subject matter expert. l have a PhD
in the life sciences. But most firms dont seem to have career opening and
do not seem to have any recruitment process.
Getting a job in VC is all about knowing the right people &
finding a way to get in touch with VCs who might want to hire you.you need
to know how to network big time. That is part of the test for how to break
in.if you can not do that yourself, you probably don't have the right
skills to make it in VC.
Also, there isn't really much demand for a technical subject matter expert on staff. VC is just call up their friends & contacts in a certain area of interest (typically university Professors) & get all the free analysis they want. Entry level jobs at VC firms are for analysts or associates. They source deals by going out & finding good startups to invest in. It is a hard job, closer to a sales person. VC firms need to examine dozens or hundreds of companies for every one they invest in. Doing that leg work is what you would be doing.
